About Us

The Community Action Agency of New Haven, Inc. (CAANH) is managed by an independent, non-government affiliated board. It is tri-partite, meaning the board must consist of a third of local public officials, a third of appointed community leaders, and a third of those who are serviced by the Agency. This unique structure gives clients an opportunity to help construct the programs that assist them, while giving those in the private and public sector a closer look at issues confronting low-income residents and senior citizens.

CAANH is one of the largest non-profit social service agencies in the New Haven region. Its programs and services consist of: Weatherization and Energy Assistance, Senior Services, Financial Education and Asset Development, and a Youth Program.

The Agency holds a 501c3 IRS designation, and receives funding by applying to federal and state sources and through grants.

Our core service area includes New Haven, East Haven, Hamden, North Haven and West Haven. We provide specific services to residents of Branford, Madison, Meriden, Wallingford, Woodbridge and the lower Naugatuck Valley Area.

We maintain offices at:
781 Whalley Avenue
New Haven, CT 06515
Telephone 203-387-7700
