CAANH Annual Appeal
Imagine you are Alice. Snow is on the way and low temperatures expected by morning. Imagine how you would feel knowing your oil tank is empty and you have no way to pay for a delivery. STRIKE ONE.
As you figure out how you will keep your children warm, you are wondering how you will feed your two youngsters this week if school is closed, or even what to give them for supper. Ever since you got laid off the unemployment checks and part time job just don't make ends meet. STRIKE TWO.
You listen to your child coughing and desperately think of how you will pay for medicine or even call to find out how to get help since your phone service lapsed, with bills piling up. STRIKE THREE.
Heat? Food? Medicine? Phone? YOU ARE OUT!
But Alice struck a home run when she borrowed her neighbor’s phone and called CAANH for help. She got an emergency fuel delivery, four bags of groceries, submitted her SafeLink phone application on line and got her kids enrolled in HUSKY. The CAANH Weatherization crew is coming out soon to seal her windows. Alice is relieved and feels hopeful - but thousands more are facing these dilemmas each day.
This past year the Community Action Agency of New Haven provided over 15,000 households with energy assistance in the five town area we serve. But that is only part of our story.
Today our skilled case managers are here tackling urgent family problems. Tomorrow our weatherization crew will recondition an older house reducing energy costs and creating a green and healthy home. A mom will open a savings account after attending our SMART Women’s group, a troubled youth who never thought beyond high school will enroll in a SAT tutorial program, an elderly couple will gain the supports they need to stay in their home, a hungry child will eat dinner tonight.
But now - the uncertainty about our economy, conflict within government and even climate change – makes your help critical. Your gift ensures that Community Action Agency remains ready to respond to struggling families in New Haven, East Haven, West Haven, North Haven and Hamden – our service area. Every donation, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated and needed.
Please consider making a tax deductible donation using the enclosed envelope or visit the “How You Can Help” section of our website and select Pay Pal to make your easy and secure online contribution.
Sincerely,
Amos L Smith
President and CEO
