 New Board Leadership

Change is in the Air

By Caren Lang

You can feel that change is in the air at CAANH!  In fact, the Board voted in new leadership.   Larry Stewart, the new Board Chair, says “the agency is moving towards empowering folks, not enabling them.”  He looks forward to leading the Board and the agency as we make a complete transition in the direction of social entrepreneurship.  Larry is currently a managing member of Tri-Con Construction and has been on the CAANH Board of Directors since 2007.

According to former Board Chair, Jeff Klaus, “the new leadership team headed by Larry Stewart won’t miss a beat.  As a veteran board member, Larry has been through a lot of battles on behalf of the CAANH and he knows what it takes to drive the organization forward.”

Wilson Luna, Dean of Students at Gateway Community College, is the new Vice Chair.  Dr. Luna is excited about his new role on the Board.  He adds that “a strong working relationship between the board members and the agency will be crucial as the Board of Directors continues to forge ahead in developing new strategic directions for the agency.   This is more important than ever as we continue to move the agency to the next level.”

The other officers on the Board include Ronald Bender, who is the secretary and Michael Van Leesten is the treasurer.  Ron is an attorney with Bender, Anderson and Barba, P.C. and Mike is a Math teacher and Director of the Breakthrough New Haven program at Hopkins School.

As CAANH moves forward, we continue to look for additional Board members who carry experience in fundraising, marketing and communications, and human resources.  If you know of anyone who would bring this experience and commitment to the Board, please forward their information to Amos L. Smith or Howard K. Hill.
