Energy Assistance
Energy Assistance Program - is a state and federally funded program which assists families in the New Haven region with fuel expenses. Applications are processed for town residents of New Haven, Hamden, West Haven, East Haven, and North Haven. This program is designed to provide Energy Assistance to individuals and families who meet the federal poverty guidelines with their primary source of heat. The program is accessible through intake sites scattered throughout New Haven and the inner ring of suburbs, and can also be accessed through New Haven Senior Cafes.

Operation Fuel
Operation Fuel is a private, non-profit statewide program designed to provide one-time emergency energy assistance to those households who are in crisis and whose income is between 150% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline and up to 100% of the State Median Income.
A. Basic benefits for homeowners and renters who pay separately for heat:
A vulnerable household may receive more basic benefits than a non-vulnerable household. A vulnerable household may be eligible for up to $925 in basic winter heating benefits this winter, compared to $885 for a non-vulnerable household. Minimum benefit level is $650.
Up to $925 in winter heating assistance for 'vulnerable' households (Households which have one or more members who are elderly (age 60 or older), or who have a disability, or are under the age of 6.)
Up to $885 in winter heating assistance for non-vulnerable households(Households with no member who is elderly, age 60 or older), or who has a disability, or who is under the age of 6.)
A range of basic benefit levels are built into Connecticut's winter heating assistance program. Once a household applies and is determined eligible for the program, the level of benefits is determined. The exact level of basic benefits is determined by your household's income, the number of members, and whether there is a 'vulnerable' household member. Households with lower income levels are eligible for higher benefits.
B. Basic benefits for renters whose heat is included in the rent:
From $425 to $455 in winter heating assistance
This level applies to households which do not make direct vendor payments for winter heating; in other words, renters whose heat is included in their rent, and who pay more than 30% of their gross income toward rent
Weatherization
This program is designed to increase the energy efficiency of homes and thereby reducing energy costs. This is a free program for those individuals or families who qualify. Those who qualify will be connected with a contractor who will perform the home weatherization.
To see if you meet the program requirements call Community Action Agency of New Haven at 203-387-7700.
