Who We Are
The Community Action Agency of New Haven, Inc.–CAANH–is managed by an independent, non-government affiliated board. It is tri-parte, meaning the board must consist of a third of local public officials, a third of appointed community leaders and a third of those who are serviced by the Agency. This unique structure gives clients an opportunity to help construct programs that assist them, while giving those in the private and public sector a closer look at issues confronting low-income resident and senior citizens.
CAA-NH is the largest non-profit social service agency in the New Haven region. Its programs and services consist of: Weatherization and Energy Assistance, Elderly Nutrition and Senior Services, Financial Education and Asset Development, and a Youth Program.
The Agency holds a 501 C3 IRS designation, and recieves funding by applying to federal and state sources and through grants. At the end of fiscal 2006, CAA-NH’s operational budget was $12,982,869. CAA-NH employs ninety full-time and part-time workers, as well as twelve temporary employees who work during the energy season.
