SMART Women (Single Mothers Actively Reaching the Top): CAANH is implementing this single mothers’ initiative designed to serve as a catalyst to help single mothers develop their own support group or resource network.  This group is focused on assisting the single mothers in meeting the demands of daily living, improving their level of self-sufficiency, and improving their parenting skills.  The program will offer financial education to the participants with 2:1 matched savings.

Fast Food Forum

The Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH) was pleased to host a forum on March 30, 2011; Fast Food Marketing to Youth: Making Healthy Food Choices for Kids.  This event focused on educating parents of children 8 and under and was sponsored by the New Haven Early Childhood Council.  Presenters included: The Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity Research, Charlie O'Connell (Childhood Diabeties Specialist), and the Veterns' Association.  Many community partners helped to provide resource tables as pictured below.
