It's A New Year

President and CEO Welcome

By Amos L. Smith

As we have sought to move the organization forward perhaps the greatest evidence of transformation was noted by reviewers from the Northeast Institute for Quality Community Action, (NIQCA).  NIQCA, a Massachusetts based company, revealed that we had established the kind of scores that makes us a “best practice site – moving towards excellence.”  Over the past five years we have transformed our board, leadership staff, and reframed the way that we think about and serve our clients and customers.

Over the past five years we have seen 70,000 families and learned much about dealing with and seeing clients through to success. We have become comfortable with turning a negative circumstance into a positive opportunity for our clients and ourselves. We know that change is inevitable – but inside of change we have a role to play and choices to make. The organization made an important choice recently when it selected Larry Stewart as the new Board Chair. Larry and Jeff Klaus, former Board Chair, worked together with others to ensure that the organization was focused and committed to recreating itself and making us anew.

We are uniquely different, and capable of being the community resource that the founders of this great organization wanted it to be. Our supporters and partners know us as an accountable partner; our funders know us as more responsive and purpose driven, and our clients see us as a beacon of light. We want to thank you for sharing this journey with us. We hope that as we continue on our journey to our new location to 419 Whalley Avenue, that you find new and better ways to join with us in creating a life and community that is worth living.
