NEW HAVEN, CT (April 11, 2022) – The Community Action Agency of New Haven, Inc. (CAANH), a Non- Profit and Social Service Agency in Greater New Haven, announced today it has partnered with the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) under the My Home CT Program.

CAANH has provided access to programs and services that offer affordable housing, coupled with other services to assist individuals on their pathway to prosperity. CAANH recognizes key components of homelessness, and housing insecurity is affordable and accessible housing. To prevent additional homelessness and bridge the gap for homeowners, who are often overlooked by services in Connecticut, CAANH is giving residents in their catchment area direct access to supportive services to address housing-related challenges, to reduce the number of individuals living on the streets of Greater New Haven.

The MyHomeCT Program is an initiative established by CHFA and the Connecticut Department of Housing to provide funding within the state from the Homeowner Assistance Fund, a part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Through the MyHomeCT Program, CAANH will perform community outreach and customer assistance. Community members can come to CAANH’s 419 Whalley Avenue office to fill out applications. CAANH’s multilingual case managers have been trained to assist clients with applications and documents specifically for this program.

The community members seeking support through the MyHomeCT program will have access to the agency’s repertoire of services and statewide resources such as foreclosure prevention counseling programs, other state and federal housing assistance programs, financial counseling programs, utility and weatherization assistance, job readiness training, employment services, and referrals to legal aid, legal representation, mental health services, food resource programs, and income support programs. As you can see, CAANH specializes in offering wraparound services.

Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH) was established in 1978. CAANH focuses on helping individuals and families with limited resources and complex issues by connecting them to CAANH’s “No Wrong Door” service delivery system. CAANH meets its clients where they are to tailor its programs to their specific needs, which provide a pathway towards self-sufficiency and economic sustainability. CAANH’s program offerings include the provision of assistance to single mothers, fathers, help with energy and water bills, financial literacy training, job readiness, food support and nutritional guidance, pregnancy and newborn needs, homeless assistance, youth programs, elderly activities, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.
