There are arts & crafts/vendors, children’s activities, classic cars and chili tasting. Cooks from all over New England come to our event, prepare their chili on site, and serve it to the crowd who get a chance to vote on their favorite.

The ChiliFest is held to raise funds to supplement our Open Choice Food Pantry and help reduce food insecurity in New Haven. The ChiliFest is Community Action Agency’s biggest annual fundraiser and supplements CAANH’s Open Choice Food Pantry. Anyone with a good chili recipe is eligible to participate and compete in one of the 4 categories; red chili, green chili, salsa and People’s Choice.

Chili aficionados come from New England and beyond to compete for first place. CAANH’s ChiliFest is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, and the winner of this competition represents Connecticut, and goes on to the World’s Cookoff to vie for up to $25,000 in prize money.

The ChiliFest is a popular event for the entire family offering entertainment, arts and crafts, vendors, children’s activities, classic car show and a wide variety of food. Everybody who attends this popular event is eligible to buy a kit and taste all the chili to cast a vote for their favorite. The ‘People’s Choice’ winner earns $250 and bragging rights!
