NEW HAVEN, CT, January 22, 2020 – The Community Action Agency of New Haven (CAANH) is pleased to announce receipt of a $5,000 donation, from the Walmart Foundation. The Walmart gift will offer support for the S.M.A.R.T Women program. Single Mothers Actively Reaching the Top (S.M.A.R.T.) is an 8-week program which provides single mothers with a resource network, personal financial management training, referral and case management services to increase their level of self-sufficiency. The mission of Community Action Agency of New Haven offers Pathways to Prosperity to those in poverty in the Greater New Haven area through: SERVICE, COLLABORATION, ADVOCACY, and KNOWLEDGE GENERATION.

COMMUNITY ACTION PROMISE – Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.

SERVICE-Community Action’s signature programs, include but are not limited to: CT Energy Assistance Program, Passport Transitional Services, SMART Women, and Case Management services to low income families.

COLLABORATION – We work across sectors with our partners: municipalities, non-profit and for-profit organizations to provide collaborative services that meet our clients’ various needs.

ADVOCACY – We encourage low-income individuals to inform their elected officials of their position on poverty related issues in conjunction with CAANH.

KNOWLEDGE GENERATION – We support and collaborate with research institutions and other entities to obtain more in-depth knowledge about poverty and in determining the most successful strategies for leading people out of poverty.
